Description: Concepts of music theory taught through ear training and written work to include non-dominant seven chords and to conclude with ninth, eleventh and thirteenth chords. Prerequisite: MTC102. Corequisite: MTC205. Recommended: MUP110 or MUP109P.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Comprehension Level) Identify and label 7th, 9th, 11th & 13th chords using Roman numeral analysis.
2. (Analysis Level) Analyze the harmonic functions of 7th, 9th, 11th & 13th chords.
3. (Knowledge Level) Identify altered non-harmonic tones.
4. (Knowledge Level) Identify secondary dominants and the principles of modulations.
5. (Analysis Level) Analyze the principles of modulations.
6. (Knowledge Level) Identify and explain functions or relationships of borrowed chords.
7. (Synthesis Level) Construct augmented and Neapolitan sixth chords and explain their harmonic function.
