Description: The basics of concrete finishing construction, including concepts, terminology, safety, code, and applications.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Comprehension Level) Identify methods of concrete reinforcement and describe the composition of concrete.

2. (Application Level) Setup and brace forms.

3. (Synthesis Level) Categorize and use concrete tools by procedure or purpose.

4. (Analysis Level) Distinguish foundation types and construction methods related to each.

5. (Comprehension Level) Estimate volume requirements for concrete.

6. (Application Level) Place, strike off, float and finish concrete flatwork.

7. (Application Level) Apply trowel and/or broom finish according to use.

8. (Application Level) Apply industry standards for expansion and control joints.

9. (Comprehension Level) Discuss the effects of expansion/contraction and frost line related to concrete.

National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Written and Performance Examination Required for NCCER credentials. (NCCER Construction Technology Core Curriculum) Student outcomes must meet a minimum 70% success rate as established by the NCCER in order to receive NCCER credentials.
