Description: Major English literary works from the Middle Ages to 1800.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Analysis Level) Identify and analyze social, political, philosophical, economic, historical and religious influences on the literature of the period.
2. (Analysis Level) Identify and analyze characteristics of major literary movements: Middle Ages, 16th century, 17th century, Restoration, and 18th century.
3. (Analysis Level) Identify and analyze characteristics of major literary genres written during the period.
4. (Analysis Level) Analyze the works of individual authors and identify characteristics of these works with regard to content and form.
5. (Synthesis Level) Examine and explain the evolution of British Literature over one or more time periods.
6. (Analysis Level) Compare themes or features of literary works to other English art-forms.
7. (Evaluation Level) Evaluate a literary work's relevance to one's contemporary life.
