Description: Practicum consisting of 45 hours of hands-on experience with emphasis on massage for special populations under supervision of an instructor. Students must earn a grade of "C" or better to pass this course. Students who fail will not be allowed to repeat this course. Students who withdraw with instructor's permission may retake this course only once with instructor permission.

Prerequisites: 1. Instructor's consent
2. Mandatory requirements specific to HPM175N must be met before enrollment.

Corequisites: HPM281

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Application Level) Demonstrate the skills required for effective massages for special populations.
2. (Application Level) Demonstrate fundamentals of proper body mechanics.
3. (Application Level) Demonstrate proper draping, hygiene, sanitation, and safety for the patient during a massage.
4. (Application Level) Apply professional communication skills with clients and co-workers.
5. (Application Level) Apply effective record keeping skills.
6. (Application Level) Demonstrate effective housekeeping practices to maintain the massage facility.
7. (Application Level) Apply professional responsibilities (ethical, legal and liability issues) while at the practicum.

This course has been developed using the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) recommended core curriculum and the Arizona State Requirements of 700-hour core curriculum for Massage Therapy.
