Description: Theory of operation and diagnostic procedures of the heavy equipment and over the road trucks. Schematics and service literature will be used as a source to assist in problem solving. Proper methods of correcting malfunctions are discussed. Safety is stressed.

Prerequisites: Must be sponsored by an AGC Contractor to enroll in course.

Corequisites:

Recommendations: The AGC Mechanic Apprentice Program was developed to provide a plan of approved training that will equip apprentices for profitable employment as skilled mechanics in the construction industry. Each apprentice is sponsored by a participating AGC member firm.

Engine:

1. Explain the complete engine systems operation in detail.
2. Determine proper measuring tools and or technical literature needed to diagnose engine systems.
3. Explain correct procedures to use when disassembling engine systems or components to make repairs to correct problem.

Drive Trains:
5. Explain the complete drive train systems operation in detail.
6. Determine proper measuring tools and technical literature needed to diagnose drive systems.
7. Explain correct procedures to use when disassembling drive trains systems or components to make repairs to correct problem.
Brakes, Steering and Suspension Systems:
8. Explain the different types of brake systems and how to trouble shoot them.
9. Explain how to adjust slack adjusters on an air brake system.
10. Explain the adjustment procedures on inner axle brake assembly.
11. Explain how the brake system works on three assigned machines.
12. Explain how to troubleshoot a wheel vehicle steering system and the adjustments required.
13. Explain how to check alignment.
14. Explain where the critical points are at on an suspension system and how to recondition it.

15. Explain the complete electrical systems operation in detail.

Hydraulic Systems:
18. Determine proper measuring tools and or technical literature needed to diagnose hydraulic systems.
