Description: Diagnosis, service and repair techniques related to brakes, steering and suspension systems used in heavy equipment applications. Use of technical service literature, reconditioning procedures and safety are emphasized. Apprentice must submit documentation of 48 hours of supervised experience.

Prerequisites: Must be sponsored by an AGC Contractor


Recommendations: The AGC Mechanic Apprentice Program was developed to provide a plan of approved training that will equip apprentices for profitable employment as skilled mechanics in the construction industry. Each apprentice is sponsored by a participating AGC member firm.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1.Diagnose failures, service, and repair brakes, steering and suspension systems.
2.Demonstrate procedures related to rebuilding major brakes, steering and suspension systems components.
3.Perform preventive maintenance, adjustments, and lubrication procedures on various brakes, steering and suspension components.
4.Apply systematic failure analysis procedures.
5.Explain and apply industry safety standards.
6.Apply learning skills on the work site.
Internal/External Standards Accreditation
1. Perform the manipulative skills required to satisfactorily complete the lab assignments to meet the manufacture’s written specifications.
2. Receive a rating greater than two on the course performance standard check sheet. (Approved by the AGC Mechanics Training Committee.)
3. Submit a signed work log documenting 48 hours of chassis and drive systems work verified by the apprentice’s supervisor.
