Description: Perform preventive maintenance responsibilities emphasizing basic equipment subsystems and major mechanical systems; perform complete scheduled inspections of equipment; utilize technical service literature, an array of special preventive maintenance service tools, and safety are emphasized. (Apprentice must submit documentation of 96 hours of supervised preventive maintenance experience.)

Prerequisites: Must be sponsored by an AGC Contractor


Recommendations: The AGC Mechanic Apprentice Program was developed to provide a plan of approved training that will equip apprentices for profitable employment as skilled mechanics in the construction industry. Each apprentice is sponsored by a participating AGC member firm.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1.Explain the preventive maintenance responsibilities of the operator.
2.List the basic equipment subsystems.
3.Identify the major mechanical systems and service points on assigned heavy equipment.
4.Demonstrate an understanding of servicing heavy equipment.
5.Identify the procedure related to the start up and shut down of heavy equipment.
6.Research maintenance history on heavy equipment.
7.Demonstrate skills in selecting and handling tools.
8.Explain and apply industry safety standards.
Internal/External Standards Accreditation
1. Perform the manipulative skills required to satisfactorily complete the lab assignments to meet the manufacture’s written specifications.
2. Receive a rating greater than two on the course performance standard check sheet. (Approved by the AGC Mechanics Training Committee}
