Description: Principles and methodologies of protein expression, isolation, identification and purification, including immunological and cell culture techniques.

Prerequisites: BIO206

Corequisites: None

Recommendations: Completion of BIO206 with a grade of "C" or better

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Application Level) Explain and implement the scientific method to answer specific questions.
2. (Application Level) Calibrate and use a variety of common and basic types of lab equipment.
3. (Comprehension Level) Critically read and follow an instruction manual for lab equipment and lab procedures.
4. (Application Level) Calculate and prepare solutions in various concentrations.
5. (Application Level) Handle, store and dispose of commonly used chemicals and biohazardous materials.
6. (Application Level) Maintain a lab notebook documenting lab procedures, problem solving episodes, data collection, graphing and analysis, and future recommendations.
7. (Evaluation Level) Assess personal compliance with lab safety procedures.
8. (Evaluation Level) Design an original experiment, assemble the necessary components, collect data and evaluate the protocol and outcome.
9. (Application Level) Perform a variety of laboratory techniques routinely used in biotechnology laboratories related to the biochemistry, immunochemistry, purification and detection of proteins.
10. (Analysis Level) Demonstrate working knowledge and analysis of core concepts, including cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, immunology and microbiology.
