Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Knowledge Level) Describe basic structure of the atom including composition and nomenclature.
2. (Knowledge Level) Define the basic nature of radiation.
3. (Knowledge Level) Describe the basic concepts of x-ray production including types, common terminology, conditions necessary for production, the x-ray emission spectra, factors that effect the emission spectra and efficiency in production.
4. (Knowledge Level) List various photon interactions with matter and describe the interaction/relation to atomic number, photon energy and part density.
5. (Knowledge Level) Explain coherent scatter, photoelectric effect, Compton effect, pair production and photodisintegration.
Internal/External Standards Accreditation
Students will achieve a level of competency as outlined by the compendium of learning objectives of Radiation Production and Characteristics (p. 92), Imaging Equipment (p.83) of the Radiography Curriculum (2012) established by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) and recognized as a standard for accreditation by Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and meet the Professional Requirements specified in Section 2.02 of the ARRT Rules and Regulations and identified in the Competency Requirements for Primary Certification of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
