Description: Exploration into the functionality and relationship between Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS), including how to prepare, manage and retrieve GIS data for mobile devices.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Knowledge Level) Define GPS and its purpose.
2. (Knowledge Level) Identify map projections, explain their purpose and identify their association with GPS.
3. (Application Level) Locate places on the Earth using geographic gridding systems and GPS coordinates.
4. (Comprehension Level) Explain how GPS relates to surveying.
5. (Application Level) Prepare and use a TopCon GPS unit.
6. (Application Level) Prepare and use a Trimble GPS unit.
7. (Application Level) Prepare an ArcGIS mobile project and use it on a mobile device.
8. (Synthesis Level) Create a dataset of GPS coordinates and present them in both AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
