Description: Procedures and practices designed to protect the health of young children in early childhood programs, with emphasis on the development of lifelong healthy habits and attitudes.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Knowledge Level) Describe important health functions of a quality early childhood program.
2. (Knowledge Level) Describe how disease is spread among children and staff and how to control it.
3. (Comprehension Level) Explain the importance of proper handwashing as a preventive measure and describe appropriate hand washing techniques.
4. (Knowledge Level) Describe basic sanitation standards.
5. (Comprehension Level) Explain the components of common childhood illnesses and describe procedures to deal with them.
6. (Analysis Level) Examine chronic health conditions in young children and describe how to provide necessary activity and care modifications in the early childhood program.
7. (Synthesis Level) Develop a plan for health and wellness activities and for introducing healthy dental habits in a program for young children.
8. (Knowledge Level) Describe methods of using and maintaining complete and current health records.
9. (Synthesis Level) Create a list of community health resources and demonstrate how to utilize them.
