Description: Installation of padding and final cover on furniture.

Recommendations: Course is required by Arizona Department of Corrections by Contract


Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Comprehension Level) Identify the basic padding materials that provide support and comfort for a piece of furniture.
2. (Evaluate Level) Explain and demonstrate the principles of making and installing an edge roll.
3. (Application Level) Demonstrate the ability to install cotton felt.
4. (Comprehension Level) Explain and demonstrate methods of laying out and fabricating patterns for upholstery using proper measurement or tracing of old materials.
5. (Application Level) Demonstrate blind stitching techniques of hand sewing.
6. (Application Level) Demonstrate the ability to install a seat, inside arms, inside back, outside arms and outside back.
7. (Application Level) Demonstrate the ability to fabricate arm panels and skirts.
Internal/External Standards Accreditation
All outcomes must be met with a minimum of 77% accuracy in written requirements and demonstrated competencies and when given a piece of furniture to take all neccessary steps to appropriately upholster the piece.
