Description: Application of building construction skills, including preliminary site work, execution of frame, and rough-in of electrical and plumbing.

Prerequisites: BCT 110, BCT 115, BCT 120, BCT 125, BCT 130

Corequisites:

Recommendations: 1. Allow credit by evaluation in some cases.
2. Provide optional supplementary related courses such as Computer-Aided Design.
3. Recommendation: use the course number suggested by the course originator; this and other courses are linked to a check sheet with the same number (attached).
4. Program designers are encouraged to offer both BCT 151 and BCT 152 in the same semester, with BCT 151 being presented in the first half of the semester, followed by BCT 152 in the second half.
5. Encourage students to take BCT 155, Professional Development for Construction Technology, concurrently with BCT 151, BCT 152, or both.
6. BCT 151 should result in a major framed-in construction project.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. List the rules concerning a safe OSHA job site.

2. Outline and explain proper safety techniques for a job site.

3. Demonstrate safety techniques in use of ladders, scaffolding, hand signals, personal protective equipment, and power tools.

4. Solve problems related to hands-on construction project(s).

5. Estimate cost of small project.

6. Identify elements of a blueprint.

7. Determine dimensions and locations from a blueprint and apply them to a project.

8. Find and outline rules and regulations that relate to residential construction.

9. Recognize code violations in a work in progress.

10. Lay out a building with batter boards and strings.

11. Demonstrate the ability to build a foundation and footings.

12. Install flooring and subflooring.

13. Assemble and fasten material together to construct wood structures using fastening devices such as bolts and nails.

14. Frame a wall and ceiling.

15. Install rough door and window frames.

16. Explain roofing techniques and procedures.

17. Design and install a complete residential plumbing system (drain, waste, and vent).

18. Outline and explain the installation of electrical system components in residential construction.

19. Manipulate conduit for electrical construction.

5. Given a cost sheet, estimate the cost for an assigned project, within 20 percent of actual cost.

6 and 7. Given a blueprint, complete the skills/tasks on currently approved BCT 151 Blueprint check sheet at proficiency level.

8. Complete the skills/tasks on currently approved BCT 151 Code check sheet at proficiency level.

9. Given a project with at least one built-in code violation, identify and assess violation(s) of rough-in code requirements, with 70 percent accuracy.

10. Use the 3-4-5 method to calculate lengths. Complete the lay-out in field/lab setting with 80 percent accuracy.

11. Complete the skills/tasks on currently approved BCT 151 Foundation and Footings check sheet at proficiency level.

12. Complete the skills/tasks on currently approved BCT 151 Floor Framing check sheet at proficiency level.

13. Nail and fasten frame members together as a unit. Use correct fastening devices and fasten the pieces together securely in 90 percent of cases.
