Description: Positive guidance and discipline techniques for family childcare providers that encourage self-discipline and enhance a positive self-image of children ages 0 - 12. Course has a bilingual component as an option and supplement.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Comprehension Level) Explain the importance of objectivity and confidentiality in the observation and guidance of young children.
2. (Knowledge Level) Define the meaning of self-concept and self-esteem.
3. (Analysis Level) Develop strategies, based on knowledge of child growth and development, that enhance positive self-concepts in children.
4. (Synthesis Level) Analyze and design a plan for the family childcare environment to foster positive social relationships.
5. (Analysis Level) Explain the relationship between a positive self concept and open expression of feelings.
6. (Synthesis Level) Develop and implement activities in the family childcare setting that encourage children to express their feelings.
7. (Application Level) Describe, develop and implement developmentally appropriate discipline and guidance methods for the family childcare setting.
8. (Synthesis Level) Develop a behavior modification plan for a child ages 0 - 4, 5 - 8 and 9 - 12 years of age.
9. (Application Level) Develop a strategy to communicate with parents regarding behavior challenges and solutions.
