Description: Scuba knowledge and skills to safely gain experience in the diving environment and, ultimately, to dive independently. Student must be at least 15 years of age, sign an Assumptions of Risk statement, meet medical fitness standards, and demonstrate swimming competency.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Comprehension Level) Explain the physics of diving.
2. (Application Level) Apply the principles of human physiology in an underwater environment.
3. (Application Level) Demonstrate proficiency in the use of scuba diving equipment underwater.
4. (Analysis Level) Calculate safe diving conditions using dive tables.
5. (Application Level) Demonstrate respect for underwater ecology.
Internal/External Standards Accreditation
Learner must meet a minimum 75% proficiency level on the written exam of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) - Open Water Diver course. Psychomotor skills must be demonstrated at competent levels per the written standards developed by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) as published in their official course guidelines for the PADI - Open Water Diver course.
