Description: An introduction to philosophies of coaching youth, high school, and collegiate athletics, emphasizing both competitive and recreational settings.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Comprehension level) Describe the similarities and differences of coaching athletics at the youth, high school and collegiate level.
2. (Comprehensive level) Describe the differences between competitive and recreational coaching.
3. (Comprehensive level) Discuss the role of a coach with respect to academic progress.
4. (Analysis level) Compare and contrast the role of a head coach and an assistant coach.
5. (Comprehension level) Describe the differences between coaching at the amateur level and professional level.
6. (Comprehension level) Discuss the techniques of communication required for effective coaching.
7. (Comprehension level) Discuss the financial responsibilities a coach assumes distinguishing by level of play.
