Description: Major English literary works from Old English to 1800.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Knowledge/Analysis Level) Identify and analyze social, political, philosophical, economic, historical and religious influences on the literature of the period.
2. (Knowledge/Analysis Level) Identify and analyze characteristics of major literary movements: Middle Ages, 16th century, 17th century, Restorations and 18th century.
3. (Knowledge/Analysis Level) Identify and analyze characteristics of major literary genres written during the period.
4. (Knowledge/Analysis Level) Analyze the works of individual authors and identify characteristics of these works with regard to content and form.
5. (Analysis/Synthesis Level) Examine & explain the evolution of British Literature over one or more time periods.
6. (Synthesis Level) Compose written discourse that demonstrates the gathering, interpretation and evaluation of evidence.
7. (Synthesis Level) Compose written discourse that exhibits competency in research, composing skills and the conventions of standard English and in accordance with an assigned style guide.
