Description: Physical control of suspects, including handcuffing, search security, baton, come-alongs, and defense tactics. CARLOTA students only.

Prerequisites: Certification of good health and currently enrolled in CARLOTA.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Application level) Describe and demonstrate the basic principles and techniques for maintaining control of disruptive, combative, or potentially dangerous subjects.
2. (Application level) Identify and demonstrate the basic principles and safe techniques of handling physical encounters and life threatening situations.
3. (Application level) Identify the impact weapon target areas and demonstrate the techniques of baton defense.
4. (Comprehension level) Identify vulnerable striking areas and pressure points on the body.
5. (Application level) Describe and demonstrate the techniques for conducting safe and effective search and handcuffing of a subject or multiple subjects.
6. (Comprehension level) Identify the following psychological aspects which affect one's ability to counter a life threatening situation: emotional, mental, and physical.
Internal/External Standards Accreditation
As guided by State Law and the current standards and recommendations of the Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board (Az POST) for the certification of Police Officers. Standards are maintained at the CARLOTA office and through Az POST's web site: www.azpost.gov (link to Certification process POST Rules).

1. In written, oral, or presentation/demonstration format, demonstrate competency at 70% of above on all student learning outcomes, per Az POST standards.
