Description: Heavy equipment safety hazards, proper machine start-up and shut-down, and basic operational procedures.

Prerequisites: Student must be sponsored by an AGC contractor to enroll.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Knowledge level) Identify the various types and uses of heavy equipment, including the following: dump truck, scraper, bulldozer, backhoe, telescoping excavator, motor grader, loader, excavator, roller, module test.
2. (Application level) Implement intital operation of heavy equipment.

Per National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Standards; URL: http://www.nccer.org/assessments.aspx:
1. Successfully complete test #22204-6 with a score of at least 70%.
2. Complete tasks safely by adhering to OSHA standards.
3. Performance competency profile tasks:
a) Identify various types of heavy equipment.
b) Identify the basic parts of each type of equipment and the differences in variations among the same type of equipment.
c) Safely perform pre-operational walk-around inspection, per AGC checksheet.
d) Safely perform correct procedures for starting and stopping machine.
e) Safely perform basic machine controls/operations, per manufacturer's manual.
f) Safely perform basic machine maneuvers in the field, per instructor's assignment.
