Description: Staking and grading operations of a construction site, including industry staking requirements for roads, commercial buildings, and trenches, and reading and interpreting construction plans to determine grading requirements.

Prerequisites: Student must be sponsored by an AGC contractor to enroll.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Knowledge Level) Define terms associated with plan reading, grade setting and drainage.
2. (Comprehension Level) Describe proper practices for setting grades off a bench mark.
3. (Comprehension Level) Describe methods for setting grades using various types of levels.
4. (Comprehension Level) Read and explain construction plan sheets to determine grading requirements.
5. (Comprehension Level) Describe various methods for keeping construction sites well-drained.
6. (Comprehension Level) Describe the work required for basic grading operations.
Internal/External Standards Accreditation

1. Successfully complete Grades I Module Examination #22208 with a score of at least 70%.
2. Performance profile tasks. Students will:
a) Measure cross-slope of embankment using steel tape and level.
b) Set a trench grade line using a steel tape and level.
c) Read plan and profile sheets and grading plan, and explain required grading operation.
d) Properly set up and use an engineer's level to take an elevation reading.
