Description: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety requirements for heavy equipment operators, including inspections, reporting procedures, and the use of protective gear.

Prerequisites: Student must be sponsored by an AGC contractor to enroll.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Knowledge) Define terms associated with equipment safety and operations.
2. (Comprehension) Identify proper safety practices with regard to bulldozers, backhoes, front-end loaders and scrapers.
3. (Analysis) Identify the main risk and safety factors involved in trenching.
Internal/External Standards Accreditation
Per National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Standards; URL: http://www.nccer.org/assessments.aspx:
1. Successfully complete Safety Part II Module Examination #22202 with a score of at least 70%.
2. Perform the required safety and operational checks for bulldozers, backhoes, front-end loaders and scrapers.
3. Identify different types of shoring and identify when each should be used.
4. Performance profile tasks. Students will:
a) Perform proper pre-start check procedures for bulldozer, scraper, front-end loader and backhoe.
b) Identify the different types of shoring and the parts that make up shoring systems, per given examples.
