Description: Theater safety, production organization and management, and introduction to basic technical design concepts, including scenic, stage lighting, and sound design. Students perform the technical aspects for selected events in the Pence Center for the Performing and Visual Arts during the semester.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Knowledge Level) Explain the hazards that exist in a theater facility by observing and adhering to all safety rules and guidelines when in the theater facilities.
2. (Comprehension Level) Identify the steps of the production process and basic responsibilities of each major theater production position.
3. (Comprehension Level) Discuss the relationships between basic design concepts for a theatrical production by examining several theatrical set or lighting designs.
4. (Application Level) Apply the basic theories of elementary electricity by attaching lighting equipment to electrical circuits.
5. (Comprehension Level) Identify and explain the duties of the Stage Manager.
6. (Comprehension Level) Identify and explain the duties of the Properties Master.
Internal/External Standards Accreditation
1. Conduct a safety survey of the theater scene shop, rigging, lighting, stage, and audience areas and identify as many hazards as possible or at least 15 potential hazards.
2. Correctly identify a minimum of 60% of the production process steps and 60% of the production position responsibilities from a listing provided by the instructor including the responsibilities of the Stage Manager and Prop Master.
3. Independently analyze the uses of the various principles of composition in a theatrical set design selected by the instructor and carefully document this analysis in a quality written or verbal report.
4. Independently use Ohm's law to determine if a given electrical load exceeds the capacity of a typical theater electric circuit with zero errors.
5. With minimum supervision from the instructor, participate in at least six hours of production experience by planning, setting up, operating one or more pieces of stage equipment, and clearing the stage after a performance or event.
