Description: A comprehensive approach to reviewing both administrative and clinical competencies for the medical assistant AAS degree graduate preparing to take the RMA (registered medical assistant) Medical Assistant Certification Examination offered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Prerequisites: Medical Assistant graduate with an AAS degree

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Comprehension) Summarize medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and law and ethics related to medical assisting.
2. (Analysis) Analysis the importance of professionalism and communications for the medical assistant.
3. (Analysis) Outline major administrative procedures for the medical assistant.
4. (Analysis) Outline major clinical procedures for the medical assistant.

1. Summarize correctly medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and law and ethics related to health care.
2. Describe accurately and discuss the importance of professionalism, interpersonal communications with patients and staff, patient reception, and management of office environment in the health care setting.
3. Describe accurately major factors and considerations involved with scheduling, coding and insurance, billing and banking procedures.
4. Summarize accurately major factors and considerations involved with telephone techniques, handling mail and correspondence, typing and ordering supplies.
5. Determine the major steps and considerations involved with medical asepsis, vital signs, height and weight, EKG, assisting with routine and specialty examinations.
6. Determine correctly major steps and considerations involved with assisting with minor surgery, administration of medication, and collecting specimens and laboratory testing.

Students will successfully meet the standards of the American Medical Technologist at the nationally established 70% mastery level.
