Description: History and development of juvenile justice theories, procedures and institutions.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. Examine the incidence of juvenile delinquency and describe how the juvenile justice system intervenes.
2. Describe the impact of legislative change on the development of national standards for juvenile justice.
3. Describe the role of the police and 4th Amendment considerations when processing juveniles.
4. Evaluate and describe; juvenile detention, intake process, diversion, adjudication process, dispositional hearing and case dispositions.
5. Identify and analyze the boundaries of the judicial authority and the right to treatment as they apply to juveniles.
6. Justify the organization and functions of the Arizona juvenile court system and the role and procedures to be observed by defense counsel and prosecution.
7. Identify and analyze factors impacting on the future shaping of the juvenile justice system.
