Description: Theory of operation, diagnostic procedures, and service and repair techniques related to diesel engine systems and fuel systems used in John Deere Construction and Forestry Equipment. The use of technical service literature, an array of special engines tools, and safety throughout the entire course will be emphasized.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. Students will demonstrate safe work habits.
2. Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
3. Demonstrate the knowledge of how and when to wear personal protective equipment in the workplace.
4. Demonstrate how to handle chemicals related to the heavy equipment and dispose of them safely.
5. Recognize an electrical hazard and follow safe guidelines relating to electrical systems.
6. Demonstrate the use of high-pressure washers and steam cleaners in a safe and productive manner.
7. Explain and demonstrate use of lifting equipment in a safe and productive manner.
8. Recognize safety information posted in the shop and follow safety procedures.
9. Demonstrate how to use hand, shop and precision tools in a safe and productive manner.
10. Explain how an internal combustion engine works and be able to locate and name components that make up an engine.
11. Disassemble a diesel engine according to the service manual and keep an organized work area.
12. Repair or replace major engine components according to the service manual.
13. Measure components with the use of precision measuring tools to determine if component is within specifications.
14. Assemble the same diesel engine according to the service manual.
15. Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the five functions of a diesel system.
16. Locate and name all components related to diesel fuel systems.
17. Remove and install diesel fuel injection pumps according to the service manual.
18. Diagnose fuel system failures and repair.
19. Perform fuel system tune-ups on diesel engines.
Internal/External Standards Accreditation
Students must pass a Web-based John Deere University Level 1 and Level 2 Engines exam with a minimum of 80% accuracy.
