Description: The basics of electrical construction, including concepts, terminology, safety, code, and applications.

Prerequisites: none

Corequisites: MAT 082 or equivalent score on math placement test

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. Outline safe practices for use of electricity on the job site.

2. Identify safety devices that are built into new construction to promote safe residential electrical use.

3. Explain the structure and function of electrical test equipment.

4. Apply electrical laws to electrical operation and construction circuitry.

5. Explain the purpose of and how to use the National Electrical Code (NEC).
Internal/External Standards Accreditation
For Learning Outcomes 1 through 4, complete the skills/tasks on currently approved BCT 125 Electrical check sheet at proficiency level.

5. Explain the purpose of the NEC in fewer than 25 words, and describe three features of the code's layout that enable the user to find the code of interest, with 90 percent accuracy.
