Description: Introduction to the field of radiology, the healthcare system and the Radiologic Technology program. Content also includes an introduction to radiologic terminology, ethics, patient care, health care systems, accreditation and professional organizations, and radiation protection. Prerequisite: Radiologic Technology Cohort student.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Evaluation Level) Assess the role of ethics and ethical behavior in health care delivery. (CSLO 3)
2. (Comprehension Level) Summarize parameters of legal responsibility in the practice of radiography regarding patient personal information, intentional torts, negligence/malpractice, and risk reduction. (CSLO 2)
3. (Knowledge Level) Identify the major professions that make up a health care system, including the radiologic technology professions and the disciplines that comprise radiography. (CSLO 2)
4. (Analysis Level) Define accreditation, credentialing, certification, registration, licensure and regulations as they relate to the field of radiologic technology. (CSLO 2)
5. (Evaluation Level) Outline the basic principles of radiation protection, including a justification for and objectives of a radiation protection program, sources of radiation and potential biologic damage, sources of radiation, safe practices, and legal/ethical responsibilities. (CSLO 4)
Internal/External Standards Accreditation
Students will achieve a level of competency as outlined by the compendium of learning objectives for Introduction to Radiologic Science and Health Care (p. 7), Ethics and Law in the Radiologic Sciences (p. 11), Patient Care in Radiologic Sciences (p.69), and Radiation Protection (p.57), of the Radiography Curriculum (2017) established by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) and recognized as a standard for accreditation by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and meet the Professional Requirements specified in Section 2.02 of the ARRT Rules and Regulations and identified in the Competency Requirements for Primary Certification of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
