Description: A beginning to intermediate vocal jazz ensemble, the ChromAtiCs is a major performance ensemble that performs vocal jazz literature for CAC and community organizations. No audition is required. The concerts are varied and represent a broad perspective of the American vocal jazz genre. Singers may represent the college as performers in public functions throughout Arizona and at vocal jazz festivals throughout the United States. May be taken five or more times for credit.

Recommendations: Previous singing experience helpful, but not required.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes
1. (Application Level) Demonstrate competent musical and performance skills: vocal, aural, sight-singing, and ensemble. (CSLO 3)
2. (Application Level) Demonstrate basic stylistic concepts of singing vocal jazz: basic swing, ascending and descending smears, fall-offs, breath accents, horizontal and vertical accents, shake, and others. (CSLO 2, 3)
3. (Application Level) Demonstrate control of vibrato and an understanding of how to use vibrato stylistically by successfully blending with the section/the choir. (CSLO 2, 3)
4. (Application Level) Demonstrate improvisational skills. (CSLO 3)
5. (Analysis Level) Recognize how to listen to jazz and respond appropriately as an audience member through concert attendance of solo jazz concerts, viewing videos of performers, and listening to recordings of popular and jazz vocalists. (CSLO 1, 2)
6. (Application Level) Demonstrate good microphone technique and care of sound equipment. (CSLO 3)
7. (Application Level) Demonstrate ability to perform proficiently for public concerts by relating to the audience and demonstrating good stage presence. (CSLO 1, 2, 3, 4)
