Description: Process mathematics, hand bending, tubing, clean, purge, and test tubing and piping systems, instrument drawings and documents, conductors and cables, and conductor terminations and splices. Included labs emphasize and anchor the course material.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Solve the basic mathematical operations necessary in instrumentation. (I)
2. Calculate and perform conduit bends using a hand bender. (II)
3. Identify the different kinds of tubing and describe the properties and common uses for each kind. (III)
4. Describe the general cleaning and purging requirements and methods for piping and tubing systems. (IV)
5. Identify and describe standard Instrument Society of America (ISA) instrument symbols and abbreviations. (V)
6. Describe the installation and jacket material, conductor size and type, number of conductors, temperature rating, voltage rating, and permitted uses when given cable markings. (VI)
7. Prepare cable ends for terminations and splices and connect the ends using lugs or connectors. (VII)
