Description: Advanced study of grammar and vocabulary of classical Hebrew with emphasis on oral reading and interpretation skills



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Define the 800 most common vocabulary words in the Hebrew Bible. (I, II, III, IV, V, VII, XII)
2. Identify variations in the usage of particular words throughout the compositional history of the Hebrew Bible. (IX, X, XII)
3. Identify and translate circumstantial clauses. (XII)
4. Identify and explain distinctive vocabulary and grammatical constructions used by various biblical authors. (XII)
5. Conjugate regular and irregular piel verbs in the past, present, future, and imperative. (II, XII)
6. Conjugate regular and irregular hiphil verbs in the past, present, future, and imperative. (III, XII)
7. Conjugate regular and irregular hithpael verbs in the past, present, future, and imperative. (IV, XII)
8. Identify and translate minor verb forms in all tenses (hophal, pual, polel, polal, hithpole). (V, XII)
9. Demonstrate vocalization mastery of extended Hebrew texts. (XII)
10. Trace the history of the transmissions of the Hebrew text. (X)
11. Explain qere readings and their impact on interpretation. (X, XII)
