Description: An overview of modern Italian literary and artistic life from World War II to present; covers Italian cultural life and institutions, including political, social, and economic structures, and a comparison to American culture.

1. Identify the major events in Italian political history since the end of World War II and explain their impact on Italian culture. (I)
2. Describe the major changes in the governmental structure of Italy since the end of World War II and explain their impact on Italian life. (I)
3. Describe the way in which major economic changes in Italy since the end of World War II have influenced Italian culture. (II)
4. Identify the most important new social foundations of Italy since the end of World War II. (II)
5. Describe the most important features of Italy-U.S. relations. (III)
6. Identify the most important features of contemporary Italian society and culture. (IV)
7. Identify the most important themes of contemporary Italian film and explain how they are exemplified in specific Italian films. (V)
8. Identify the most important themes of contemporary Italian literature and explain how they are exemplified in specific Italian literary selections. (V)
