Description: Continuation of Piano III including modulation techniques, improvisation of piano accompaniments, advanced chromatic harmony, and sight reading of advanced literature



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Perform advanced solo and ensemble pieces from the major historical periods. (I)
2. Perform all major and minor scales (three forms), four octaves, hands together in various rhythms with metronome set at quarter note = 90. (II)
3. Perform arpeggios, four octaves, hands together in various rhythms and tempi. (II)
4. Perform a chromatic scale. (II)
5. Improvise advanced accompaniments from lead sheets, employing chords in either hand. (III)
6. Perform cadence patterns in four-voice style with two hands. (IV)
7. Sight read advanced material. (IV)
8. Transpose melodies. (IV)

I. Repertoire
   A. Expanded solo repertoire of all major historical periods including binary, sonata, and rondo forms
   B. Duets of a more difficult level
   C. Ensemble repertoire
II. Technique
   A. All major and minor scales (three forms) in various rhythms, four octaves, hands together
   B. Etudes, including all accompaniment patterns, chords, and scales
   C. Chords and cadence patterns in four-voice style including mediant and leading tone chords
   D. Major and minor arpeggios, four octaves, hands together, in various rhythmic patterns and tempi
   E. Chromatic scale
III. Improvisation: Lead sheets employing popular tunes, operatic arias, folk and art songs in two styles
   A. Chords in right hand with octaves in left hand
   B. Chords in left hand in one of the basic accompaniment patterns
IV. Sight reading
   A. All types of song material, standard repertoire, and patriotic songs, and hymn-style pieces
   B. Duets and ensemble pieces
   C. Transposition of short melodies
   D. Score-reading-playing two or more parts together, or singling out one line
