Description: A geology field trip by raft through the Grand Canyon from Lees Ferry to Lake Mead. Special fees required to cover trip expenses



MCCCD Official Course Competencies

2. Use a geologic map to locate rock units, structures, and other geologic features in the Grand Canyon. (I, II, VI)
3. Use a topographic map to locate one`s position and various geologic features in the Grand Canyon. (III)
4. Decribe the types and amounts of weathering and erosion in the Grand Canyon. (IV)
5. Identify the various landforms found in the Grand Canyon. (V)
6. Identify the rock units (formations) found in the Grand Canyon. (VI)
7. Describe the environments of deposition indicated by the various rock units found in the Grand Canyon. (VI)
8. Identify the common fossils found in the Grand Canyon. (VII)
9. Describe the geologic history of the Grand Canyon region during different geologic eras, including Precambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic. (VIII)
10. Describe the various theories of the origin of the Grand Canyon. (VIII)
