Description: Introduction to street gang identification, history, culture, and current trends, specifically in the western United States



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Describe the history of street gangs in the western United States. (I)
2. Describe Black street gangs such as Crips, Bloods, and gangsters, their history, and current activities in the Phoenix area. (II)
3. Describe Hispanic gangs, their history, and current criminal activities. (III)
4. Describe Asian gangs, history, and current criminal activities. (IV)
5. Describe gang culture: tattoos, clothing, and graffiti. (V)
6. Identify gang recognition criteria. (VI)
7. Identify officer safety tactics when confronting gang members. (VII)
8. Describe influence of prison on gang members. (VIII)
