Statewide Update: The group addressed the need for consistency and proper credentialing (qualifications) of dual enrollment faculty. Duane DeSpain of Eastern noted that he is a resident faculty member teaching dual enrollment Chemistry courses. Mohave Community College noted concerns with the credentials of dual enrollment instructors with Chemistry courses. The group also noted some concerns with the rigor associated with Chemistry courses offered in the high school.

The group then discussed an issue that was recently brought up at the Biology ATF concerning the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) proposal to reduce prerequisites such as microbiology or chemistry, with microbiology possibly being added into the nursing curriculum as only a two-week topic. The discussion then continued with how such a change would affect chemistry courses. Some community colleges have already seen this change and they remarked on how that has impacted their departments. MCC stated they would follow up on this with their Director of Nursing.

There was also some conversation about the need for standardization of the Physics courses required for the AS degree to be able to distinguish between algebra-based and Calculus-based Physics.

MCC resolved to accept IB test scores for advanced placement in line with the rest of the community colleges.
