Catalog Course Description: This course includes structures and function of primary and permanent dentitions and associated oral structures. Survey of human embryology and histology with emphasis on head and neck and oral development.  
Course Learning Outcomes: 1. Identify intra and extra oral landmarks of the head and neck. (2, 3) C1, C3, C4, C6
2. Compare landmarks on the primary and permanent dentitions. (2, 3) C1, C3, C4, C5, C6
3. Identify histological variations of tissues associated with teeth and oral structures. (2, 3) C1, C3, C4, C6  
Course Competencies: 1. Identify regions of the head and neck, oral cavity and pharynx and specific anatomic structures within each region.
2. Outline prenatal development of the head and neck, orofacial structures and teeth.
3. Differentiate between different types of cells and basic tissues.
4. Examine tissues of the oral mucosa, gingiva, and periodontium.
5.Contrast morphology and function between primary and permanent dentitions.
6. Summarize the anatomy and function of the temporomandibular joint.
7. Classify the variations in occlusion in diagrams, photos and on patients.
8. Compare the anatomic differences between primary and permanent dentitions.
