Catalog Course Description: Provides an understanding of World Geography through the five themes of location, place, region, movement, and human-environmental interaction. The course provides an understanding of human geography that can be analyzed through political, social, and economic perspectives. The course will also focus on understanding cartography as related to earth science, political divisions, resource distribution, and major world biomes.  
Course Learning Outcomes: 1.Analyze geographic data of the five themes of geography: location, place, regions, movement, and human-environmental interactions. (3,4,5,6)

2.Identify how political, social, and economic factors affect creation of world cultures and the conflict and interactions that develop between regions and societies; including global issues such as glacial melting and climate change. (2,3,4)

3.Implement the scientific method with empirical research and data collection for exploring questions and solutions in the science of geography. (3,4,5)  
Course Competencies: Competency 1. Formulate the five major themes of geography.

Objective 1.1 Examine the overall location by applying both relative and absolute location.
Objective 1.2 Analyze the human and physical characteristics of a place.
Objective 1.3 Outline the common elements that determine formal, functional, physical, and perceptional regions.
Objective 1.4 Describe the movement of people, goods, and ideas in regional and global perspective.

Objective 2.1 Outline the development of religious and social roles in world cultures.

Objective 5.1 Outline the human and physical characteristics that have created the Eastern culture in comparison with the Western culture.
Objective 5.2 Evaluate the rapid modernization of the Eastern World and its impact on current cultures.
Objective 5.3 Appraise the impact of human development on the environment in both the Eastern World and globally, such as the Three Gorges Dam in China and extensive pollution in Asia.

Competency 6. Differentiate between first world and third world nations.

Objective 6.1 Outline the importance of currencies and their impact on institutions such as the United Nation, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund.
Objective 6.2 Analyze resource distribution across the globe related to exploration and development of new economic opportunities.
Objective 6.3 Describe the impact of the third world development related to world concerns such as global warming.
