Description: Methods of developing lesson plans in the content areas within bilingual/Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs. Emphasis on components of bilingual approaches, lesson development, teaching techniques, and evaluation of instructional materials.




MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Describe theories and approaches of first language teaching for bilingual students. (I)
2. Explain/apply methods and instructional strategies for teaching academic content to English/language learners in first and partner languages. (II)
3. Describe theories and approaches of second language teaching for bilingual students. (II)
4. Plan and present lessons across the curriculum in students` first and second languages. (III)
5. Apply classroom management techniques for students with various levels of proficiency and academic experience. (IV)
6. Evaluate and adapt instructional materials in terms of students linguistic, cultural, and academic needs. (V)
MCCCD Official Course Competencies must be coordinated with the content outline so that each major point in the outline serves one or more competencies. MCCCD faculty retains authority in determining the pedagogical approach, methodology, content sequencing, and assessment metrics for student work.
