Description: Application and review of advanced pipefitting techniques for advanced blueprint reading, steam systems, stress relieving and aligning. Purpose and function of in-line specialties and an introduction to supervisory roles.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Apply advanced techniques in the interpretation and implementation of shop and field blueprints using piping and instrumentation drawings (PandIDs), general arrangement drawings, isometric drawings (ISOs) and spool sheets. (I)
2. Describe the various types of steam traps, their function, and the basic methods for trouble shooting. (II)
3. Describe the nature of misalignment and methods of correction. (III)
4. Practice terminology used in communication between pipefitters and millwrights who perform pump setup. (III)
5. Identify the various specialty devices used in pipelines, including bleed rings, ball and expansion joints, measuring devices, level, flow rate, pressure, steam traps, drip legs and desuperheaters and the purpose and function of each. (IV)
6. Identify issues associated with supervisory roles related to cultural differences, gender-based social behaviors, legal and ethical situations. (V)
