Description: Exploration of topics relative to the professional and ethical development of the addictions and substance use disorders counselor, including codes of ethics, confidentiality laws, professionalism and boundary issues, and the meeting of individual counselor needs within the field.

1. Describe the role of an addictions and substance use disorders counselor. (I)
2. Explain counselor professionalism. (I, II)
3. Describe federal confidentiality regulations protecting those with substance use disorders. (SUD). (I, II)
4. Summarize counselor ethics and standards of practice. (II, III)
5. Identify potential counselor stressors. (III)
6. Summarize how stressors can impact a counselor. (III)
