Description: Principles of effective collaboration, consultation, and co-teaching to improve programs, services, and outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities and their families. Includes critical interpersonal communication strategies and tools for working with diverse groups of people in addition to the benefits of collaboration as well as the challenges that educators currently face.

1. Define collaboration and describe its critical characteristics. (I)
2. Define the term consultation, and outline the characteristics of consulting in educational settings. (I)
3. Compare and contrast the three types of interpersonal communication. (II)
4. Analyze challenges to listening and apply strategies to enhance listening skills. (II)
5. Explain how to provide feedback effectively. (II)
6. Distinguish between reactive and proactive approaches to problem solving. (II)
7. Explain the role of Response to Intervention (RTI) in problem solving. (II)
8. Compare and contrast methods of communication to improve collaboration efforts. (II, III)
9. Compare and contrast multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary teams. (III)
10. Compare and contrast approaches for implementing co-teaching. (III)
11. Describe major causes of conflict. (IV)
12. Compare and contrast response styles to conflict. (IV)
13. Identify strategies for addressing conflict. (IV)
