Description: Overview of teaching elementary social studies. Topics include lesson plans preparation, teaching strategies, assessments, classroom management techniques and teaching resources. Emphasis on Professional Teaching Standards.

1. Identify current Professional Teaching Standards. (I) 2. Summarize characteristics of learners. (II) 3. Use various classroom management techniques. (III) 4. Assess various social studies teaching resources currently available. (IV) 5. Use various teaching resources to teach social studies. (IV) 6. Analyze the use of technology to teach social studies. (V) 7. Develop social studies curriculum. (VI) 8. Demonstrate ability to write lesson objectives. (VI) 9. Summarize various teaching strategies. (VII) 10. Use various teaching strategies. (VII) 11. Summarize the purpose of assessments. (VIII) 12. Evaluate various assessment options. (VIII) 13. Demonstrate ability to promote student self-assessment. (VIII) 14. Prepare a lesson plan. (IX) 15. Teach a social studies lesson. (IX) 16. Complete field experience as a volunteer teacher aide. (X) 17. Summarize the field experience. (X)
