1. Dress in appropriate Operating Room attire and scrub utilizing time methods. (I)
2. Gown and glove using closed method and assist physician and assistant with gowning, gloving and draping. (I) 3. Set-up, prepare, drape and pass the instruments on general surgery cases correctly and safely. (I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII) 4. Perform within the ethical, legal and professional role of the student technologist. (II) 5. Apply safety and aseptic principles in opening packs, handling instruments, equipment and supplies. (III) 6. Operate all parts of the table and utilize safety guidelines in positioning the patient. (III) 7. Recognize special needs and cultural variations to effectively communicate with the patient. (IV) 8. Communicate effectively with instructors, mentors and all members of the Operating Room team. (IV) 9. Count sponges, needles and instruments at appropriate times. (V) 10. Record information on appropriate forms and report deviations from normal to appropriate person. (V) 11. Utilize hand signals for passing scissors, knife, clamp, needle holder, thumb forceps, retractors and cautery. (V) 12. Organization, maintain neatness, and demonstrate dexterity in the Operating Room. (VI) 13. Receive, verify and label correctly mediations and specimens on the field. (VII) 14. Place surgical dressing, connect drainage systems, remove drapes, and assist with transfer of the patient to a stretcher. (VIII) 15. Discard disposable items, transport instruments to the workroom and assist with operating room clean up between case and end of day. (IX) | |||
