Description: Layout, fabrication and basic skills of measuring, cutting, shaping, grinding, drilling and tapping, welding, filing, shimming, heating and bending of metal parts. Safe and proper use of all necessary hand and power tools.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Explain proper tool safety requirements/procedures associated with advanced welding fabrication. (I)
2. Calculate specific advanced weld dimensions required on shop symbols and prints. (II)
3. Identify and demonstrate proper use of advanced weld symbols required for fabrication project. (II, IV)
4. Prepare layout and fabrication plan including step-by-step sequence of operations. (II, V)
5. Develop a complete set of plans for fabrication project using advanced weld types and positions. (III)
6. Explain in detail the purpose of finishing, fastening and grinding welds as related to the advanced layout and fabrication project. (V)
7. Explain the use of welding inspection techniques and how each process is used. (V)
8. Complete a layout and fabrication project plan and submit for grading. (V)
