Description: Principles and techniques of electric arc welding and American Welding Society (AWS) certification requirements, certification pretest, and preparation. Technical theory and skill training in all position welding processes.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. List procedures for AWS certification (I)
2. Demonstrate proper use of eye protection and clothing clean up and securing the shop. (I, II)
3. Demonstrate proper and safe use of shop equipment. (I, III)
4. Translate information from blueprints into practical use. (IV)
5. Operate the welder in all positions in a safe manner. (V)
6. Describe the methods of welding aluminum and stainless steel. (V)
7. Operate an arc welder in the proper alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) modes. (V)
8. Identify the commonly used electrodes and describe their use. (V)
9. Demonstrate the proper weld of aluminum and cast iron. (V)
10. Demonstrate common weld positions used in industry. (V)
11. Identify common filler metals in welding. (VI)
12. Prepare for the AWS weld Certification test. (VI)
