Description: Pharmacologic principles related to the treatment of Acute and Chronic Pulmonary Disease. Information on bronchodilators, mucokinetics, surfactants, anti-inflammatory, antiasthmatic and anti-infective agents to include mechanism of action, general drug information, side effects, and respiratory care considerations.

2. Review the basic physiology of smooth muscle relaxation, bronchial hygiene and inflammation in the airways. (II)
3. Differentiate the classes of bronchodilator medications according to their mechanism of action and clinical usage. (III)
4. Identify the appropriate pharmacological agents used to impact the physiology of mucus in the respiratory tract. (III)
5. Differentiate the anti-inflammatory and antiasthmatic classes of medications according to their mechanism of action and clinical usage. (III)
6. Given a patient with respiratory infection, identify appropriate antimicrobial therapy. (IV)
