Description: The demonstration and application of psychological principles to the development and guidance of children and adolescents



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Identify the basic aspects of psychological development of the normal child and adolescent. (I)
2. Describe the various techniques of parent-child communication. (II)
3. Describe listening strategies used for effective communication. (II)
4. Describe various parenting styles and their effect on the development of the child. (II)
5. Describe various behavior modification and other techniques and identify situations in which they are most successful. (II)
6. Describe the pros and cons of daycare. (III)
7. Describe the characteristics of quality daycare and preschool programs. (III)
8. Describe the characteristics of management of gifted children. (III)
9. Describe the characteristics of management of children with various physical handicaps. (III)
10. Describe the characteristics of management of children with learning disabilities. (III)
11. Describe the characteristics of management of children in selected situations, such as illness, sibling issues, or school problems. (III)
