1. Describe the characteristics of five types of managers as portrayed on the Managerial Grid (Blake, et al., 1964), and identify the effects of each style on productivity and staff. (I)
2. Identify the sources of pressure and constraints within the organizational setting and clarify their organizational role and responsibility. (II) 3. Explain the Motivation-Hygiene Theory of Work and the characteristics of job redesign so these principles can be applied to raise employee productivity and morale. (III) 4. Describe communication flow within an organization and the role that networks play in organizational communication. (IV) 5. Select appropriate strategies for dealing with common difficulties of communication within organizations. (IV) 6. List methods of implementing selected strategies to make communication within the organization more effective. (IV) 7. Describe the nature and scope of Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action as it applies to the role of managers and supervisors in government agencies. (V) 8. Describe the functions of the Personnel Division of a government agency and how it can assist managers and supervisors in managing subordinates. (VI) 9. Describe a grievance system, outline the major steps in a grievance process, and explain the manager`s role in the system. (VII) 10. List the key areas of concern in the relationship between management and employees, and describe, in relation to theories presented, strategies for improving those relations. (VIII) 11.
