Description: Focus on nursing concepts and theories to meet complex human needs across the life span based on the wellness/illness continuum in a variety of acute care and community settings. Emphasis on utilizing critical thinking skills to plan holistic care through the nursing process for groups of clients with selected acute and chronic alterations in health and psychiatric/mental health disorders. Course Notes: Nursing Process/Critical Thinking course and Nursing Science course must be successfully completed concurrently to meet program requirements



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Incorporate critical thinking skills to make inferences and judgments from client data that describe actual and potential nursing problems. (I)
2. Integrate holism in planning nursing care of clients and families with psychiatric/mental disorders and acute and chronic alterations in health. (II)
3. Design a holistic health care teaching plan in collaboration with client, family, and members of the health team. (I, II)
4. Develop a nursing plan of care for clients with acute and chronic alterations of health and psychiatric/mental health disorders. (III)
5. Modify the nursing plan of care for clients across the life span integrating their developmental needs. (III)
6. Analyze community-based health care issues within a defined community. (III)
7. Incorporate professional nursing standards in the plan of care for clients and families with acute and chronic alterations of health and psychiatric/mental health disorders. (III, IV)
