Description: Overview of roles in nursing with emphasis on transition from nursing assistant to practical nurse. Includes introduction of the core values of the MCCD nursing programs, nursing history, standards, and scope of practice. Introduces concepts and skills required of the practical nurse, and application of communication techniques and delegation to teamwork and leadership



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Relate the Maricopa County Community College District Nursing Programs (MCCCDNP) core values to the nursing role in practice. (I)
2. Identify key historical developments in the nursing profession. (II)
3. Describe the changes in role needed to transition from nursing assistant to practical nurse. (III)
4. Describe the application process for the licenceed practical nurse (LPN) licensure. (IV)
5. Identify the scope of practice for the practical nurse. (V)
6. Examine legal issues related to the practical nurse role. (VI)
7. Apply skills of communication, delegation, and conflict management appropriate to the LPN role. (VII)
8. Develop strategies to maintain current knowledge of health care trends and issues that impact nursing. (VIII)
9. Describe professional credentialing and accreditation within nursing. (VII)
10. Examine conflict of role expectations in nursing. (VIII)
MCCCD Official Course Competencies must be coordinated with the content outline so that each major point in the outline serves one or more competencies.
